If you are on Tranøy, you can visit both Tranøy Galleri and Hamsungalleriet. Surrounded by Lofotveggen and Vestfjorden, you can hike marked sheepback rocks that take you through a unique outdoor art gallery. If you visit Galleri Loskjelleren, you will find the materials of nature in the form of ceramic handicrafts, among others. At Tranøy harbour you can enjoy refreshments on the debarked whale boatSvolværingen or at the ship side outdoors.
Do you need a quiet and relaxing day? hen we can recommend a visit to Spa Regina, which is a stone’s throw from “bankpaa”. With products from the sea, Spa Regina can offer beneficial treatments from head to toe, which is best combined with a visit to the sauna and jacuzzi with idyllic sea views.
If you go a few kilometers from Tranøy center, you will find the spectacularTranøy lighthouse. The walk over the 250-metre long footbridge is an experience in itself, where you get to feel the fresh sea air and see a bustling bird life. The lighthouse station has been in operation since 1864 and is today automated. There is still full activity in the season where you can tour the lighthouse and enjoy a good dinner in the restaurant. Here you can try lovely Northern Norwegian food, including whale meat and grilled dry fish that we highly recommend.
If you want to test out the northern bathing temperature, you can take a refreshing dip at one of Hamarøy’s many nice beaches. If you have snorkel gear, a SUP board or a kayak, there are nice conditions for this as well.
If you want even more memorable experiences, Hamarøy has more to offer. If you have access to a car, why not explore the rest of the municipality? Some of our favorites are Hamsunsenteret, Árran (Lulesamic center) andArctic Salmon Center. We can also recommend Vestfjorden Explorer which can take you on a ribbing tour through a beautiful archipelago and strong ocean currents. If weather conditions permit, it can even take you across the fjord to Lofoten.
The municipality is enriched with lush and varied nature. If you enjoy high altitudes, Hamarøyftet, Stetinden and Hamnestinden are exciting trips. To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, contact tour guides who are familiar in the terrain. The active climbing community in the municipality has given us a brand new climbing hall at Oppeid and an outdoor climbing area at Skutvik.
If you like slightly lighter walks and flatter terrain, we can recommend a trip along Nesstraumen or a trip to beautiful Selsøyodden. However, you do not need to leave Tranøy to find good hiking areas. Check out the website ut.no for more information.
